A marine engineer by training, Ravi Mehrotra quickly rose through the ranks at the Shipping Corporation of India, holding various senior positions including secondment at Managing Director level on international Joint Ventures. In 1984 he decided to start up on his own and came to London where he established Foresight Limited. His business grew on the back of a shuttle service management for export of crude oil and the purchase of multipurpose ships which traded internationally. By 1990 he had ushered the Company into offshore drilling and reefer shipping which formed the backbone of Foresight during the next two decades. Tankers and multipurpose ships were added to the fleet, and managed from Cyprus. Since 1994 he has been a member of Lloyds Register of Shipping Committee. He is on the committees of DNV UK and American Bureau of Shipping. In recognition of his services to the shipping industry, he was awarded, in 2006, an Honorary CBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Flavian Kamath D’Souza, a Master Mariner since 1975, was pre-sea trained at the “DUFFERIN”. He was in command of multipurpose vessels until 1981. After substantial technical and commercial shore based exposure, he joined Foresight in 1985 as Director Shipping, contributing to the growth of the Shipping Division from day one, and simultaneously operating the broking division, bringing in the much-needed seed capital. In 1990, with the acquisition of two offshore drilling rigs Flavian was appointed Joint Managing Director of the drilling division and the oil tanker cell. Buoyed by the division’s experience in turn key oil exploration, he was appointed Managing Director of Foresight Oil Ltd upon its inception in 2000. Flavian, a Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, now heads the division as Managing Director OED Division, pursuing offshore and shore-based projects worth over half a billion US dollars.
Manju Mehrotra is the wife of Executive Chairman Ravi K. Mehrotra. Her focus has been to support and assist him in all ventures since the inception of Foresight and she played an active part in the establishment of the chain of The Tandoor restaurants across China. She carries the social responsibility that comes with her position very gracefully and has been extremely successful in her role of ‘the woman behind the man’.
Anil Deshpande’s shipping career began in 1976. His education in engineering and management and post graduation in Professional Shipping (Oslo) facilitated success in his early career spanning shipping projects, S&P, and chartering to commercial management of a variety of ships, including multipurpose, bulkers, reefers and tankers. Anil then played a leading role in developing Foresight’s highly profitable reefer, multipurpose and tanker businesses and diversified the fleet extensively. After a successful bond issue in USA in 1998, the fleet was further expanded from the Cyprus office where Anil, as Managing Director Shipping, developed the fleet as well as the ship-management activity. These activities then won the Lloyds Award for Excellence in Ship Management in 2003. From 2006 to 2008 he achieved the timely sale of Foresight’s container and reefer fleet, providing capital for modernising the fleet during the downturn. Anil took over the reins as Chief Executive Officer of the Foresight Limited from Mr Ravi K Mehrotra CBE in August 2008. He has since set in motion and continues the process of achieving further growth in the areas of shipping, offshore drilling, strategic investments in subsea construction and exploration, hospitality and brand retailing.
